Congratulations to the class of 2016! The University of Maryland welcomes you to our December 2016 Commencement website, where graduates, family members and the university community may find information about the ceremonies. These events are not only a celebration of the graduating students’ accomplishments at the University of Maryland, but also an occasion to acknowledge our joint enthusiasm for their future endeavors. The university recognizes that commencement is a milestone in our graduates’ lives and, as such, we strive to ensure that everyone enjoys their experience. The campus-wide ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, and the individual college and school ceremonies will occur at various times on Tuesday, December 20 and Wednesday, December 21. The colleges and schools will contact graduating students with specific information pertaining to the individual ceremonies. Contact the college or school directly for more information regarding the individual ceremonies.
The university is pleased to provide a real-time stream of the campus-wide ceremony on the commencement website beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, December 20. The ceremony will also be cablecast on UMTV in Prince George's and Montgomery counties. On-campus viewers can watch UMTV on channel 38. Off-campus viewers should check their local listings for UMTV.
All university coursework requirements must be completed by the time of graduation. Your student account must be cleared with the university before your diploma will be mailed. This includes any outstanding Health Center charges, parking fines, library fines, etc. Check with the Office of the Bursar at 301.314.9000 to be sure that you have financial clearance. No tickets are required for the winter 2016 campus-wide ceremony.
Tickets are not required for the individual school or college ceremonies, but some may have an RSVP system in place for graduates and guests. Please contact the individual college or school for more information.
Guests who need disability accommodations or have questions regarding the accommodations
for the campus-wide ceremony may contact the Office of Special Events at firstname.lastname@example.org or 301.405.4638.
There is a designated disability seating area for the campus-wide ceremony. Due to limited space, we ask that only one family member sit with the guest in the disabled seating section, and that additional family members sit in the nearby sections. Volunteers will be on hand to help guests find seating that best fits their needs.
Disability parking is located on the first floor of the Terrapin Trail Garage, located next to the Xfinity Center. A state issued handicap permit OR a disability parking permit (provided by the Office of Special Events) is required to park in this location for the campus-wide ceremony. If you are in need of a disability parking permit, please email the Office of Special events at email@example.com and include your name, mailing address and telephone number. Permits and a detailed letter are mailed out approximately two weeks prior to the ceremony.
Sign language interpreters are available upon request for the commencement ceremonies. Please contact the Disability Support Service at 301.314.7209 or firstname.lastname@example.org to make arrangements.

Photos and Flowers
In order to commemorate this milestone in our graduates' lives, GradImages will take photographs of each graduate participating in the campus-wide commencement ceremony prior to the procession. While there is no obligation to purchase the prints, the graduate will receive color proofs by mail approximately two weeks after commencement. In order to receive the proofs, please make sure that you complete the company's address card, distributed in the line-up area prior to the procession. Flowers, Tshirts and gifts will be available for purchase at the various ceremony sites across campus.
The University Book Center is the official supplier of commencement regalia for the university, with Oak Hall as the official provider. Cap and gown packages can be purchased at The University Book Center, located in the Stamp Student Union.
For information about class rings and announcements, visit www.balfour.com. Balfour representatives will be at Grad Fair to take orders and showcase the Maryland announcements and class rings.
Undergraduate and Master’s Degree Students
Undergraduate and master's degree students must purchase their regalia from the book center. The following items are required and sold as a package:
Graduates may purchase regalia packages at the University Book Center’s Grad Fair on October 12th from 10 a.m.–6 p.m. The undergraduate package will cost $138.98 and the master's degree package will cost $149.98. Regalia cannot be purchased online. Please email email@example.com if you live out of state and will need regalia shipped to you. Items may be shipped for an additional $16.95. Doctoral students may rent or buy their regalia. If you choose to rent your regalia, it must be picked up from the book center (shipping is not available). The cost to rent regalia is $220.98 and the cost to purchase regalia is $1002.98.To order or rent regalia visit the University Book Center.
